The Radix Nationals Finals Competition is the culmination of the 2016-2017 regional Radix tour. To compete in the Radix Finals Competition, entries must have qualified at a regional Radix competition or during the Radix nationals Pre-Qualifying Competition.

GROUP (4-9 dancers) $50 $60 3 minute max
LINE (10-15 dancers) $50 $60 3 minute max

PRODUCTION (25+ dancers) $50 $55 5 minute max

RADIX will allow a 15 second "grace period" for any routine that goes over the allotted time limit. Any routine that exceeds the 15 second "grace period" will be subject to a one (1) point deduction for each second past the "grace period".

NEED ADDITIONAL TIME? You may purchase up to 3 additional minutes of time for any Group, Line, Extended Line or Production for just $5 per dancer, per additional minute.

ROOKIE DIVISION average age: 5-7
MINI DIVISION average age: 8-10
JUNIOR DIVISION average age: 11-12
TEEN DIVISION average age: 13-15
SENIOR DIVISION average age: 16-18
OPEN DIVISION average age: 19+
  • To reach the average age of an entry, add all the ages together and divide by the number of dancers in the entry. When averaging ages always DROP THE DECIMAL POINT. For example, if a routine averages to an age of 12.7, you would drop the decimal, therefore the routine would compete in the 11-12 year-old (Junior) age category.
  • The average age of each entry must not drop more than one age division below the age of the oldest dancer in the entry, regardless of the actual average age. Example: an entry contains dancers ranging in age from 9-17, the entry may not compete younger than the 13-15 age category (one division younger than the oldest dancer-17).
  • Any routine with a dancer 20 years of age or older must compete in the Open age division (19+) regardless of the average age of the routine.
  • Routines are allowed to "age up" (compete in an age category higher than the average age).
  • Names and ages of all dancers must appear on the entry form or it will not be accepted. All competing dancers must be prepared to present proof of age should a question arise.

  • JAZZ: Primarily jazz technique, utilizing up-tempo music.
  • BALLET: Primarily ballet or pointe technique, including classical steps and movements.
  • HIP-HOP: Primarily hip-hop technique.
  • TAP: Primarily tap technique. Routines demonstrating clogging technique and style may not compete in the tap category.
  • CONTEMPORARY: A fusion of many jazz styles with a strong emphasis on modern technique.
  • LYRICAL: A combination of jazz and ballet techniques to slow music incorporating emotional and storytelling elements.
  • MUSICAL THEATRE: Any routine interpreting a song from a Broadway or Movie Musical.
  • SPECIALTY: Consists of all other categories: ethnic, acro/gymnastics, novelty, clogging, ballroom, etc.
  • SHOWCASE: Entries that wish to perform for critiques only. These routines will not be scored and will not be eligible for Adjudicated or High Score Awards.
  • IMPROVISATION: Involves creating and executing movement spontaneously, without any premeditated movement. Dancers entered in this category will not know the song being played ahead of time. The song will be selected at random. Length will be no more than 2 minutes and 30 seconds.

*Judges reserve the right to change the performance division of a number if they feel it is incorrectly placed.

  • Any routines that already competed at a regional Radix competition during the 2016-2017 season can enter the Finals competition. They do NOT need to pre-qualify again at Radix Nationals in Las Vegas.
  • All ON THE EDGE!, High Gold, Gold, High Silver, and Silver winners in the Pre-Qualifying Competition are eligible to compete in the RADIX Finals Competition.
  • All Pre-Qualifying entries must submit double entry fees - Pre-Qualifying fees AND Finals Competition fees. Pre-Qualifying entries that do not qualify for the Finals Competition will receive fee reimbursements. All Pre-Qualifying Competition fees must be postmarked by May 16, 2017.
  • All entry fees and guidelines for the Finals Competition also apply to the Pre-Qualifying Competition.
  • Solos & Duo/Trios DO NOT need to pre-qualify!

  • There is no limit to the amount of routines a studio can bring to the Finals Competition. The only limit imposed is to soloists. There is no limit to the number of solos a studio brings (first come, first serve), however a soloist is only allowed to compete one solo in the Finals Competition.
  • Entries for the Finals Competition must have qualified at either a RADIX Regional Competition or the Pre-Qualifying Competition.
  • Overall number of Finals Competition entries will be limited to the time available. Entries will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis.
  • All fees are due with entry forms - postmarked by May 16, 2017.
  • RADIX Regional "BEST OF RADIX" and "STUDIO STANDOUT" winners receive FREE Competition entry, for that number, at the 2017 RADIX Finals Competition!

The RADIX stage (danceable area) will be 40" wide by 28" deep. There will be ample wing space in addition to the width.

  • Upload all of your competition music to Radix Dance! Forget the hassle of CDs!
  • We will email everyone a code to upload their music a few weeks before the event. Audio files are accepted in MP3, WAV, M4A or AIF format only, up to 50 MB each. We recommend MP3 format.
  • Although we MUCH prefer music being uploaded prior to the event, we will still accept music at the event as either CDs or on a FlashDrive.
  • Registered Teachers must turn in one FlashDrive labeled with your studio name and code. Each entry should be labeled with the 3-digit Routine # and Routine Name. (Example: 001 It's All Coming Back To Me, 013 Wind It Up, 121 The Promise)
  • If submitting a FlashDrive at the event, please note that audio files are accepted in MP3, WAV, M4A or AIF format only, up to 50 MB each. We recommend MP3 format.
  • All FlashDrives must be submitted to the registration desk at Registration. All FlashDrives will be imported and run through a computer system at competition.
  • Whether uploading your music to Radix Dance or bringing CDs or a FlashDrive to the event... ALWAYS have a back-up in another format (like an iPod) just in case!

RADIX prides itself in maintaining a professional, classy, and family environment. Our "age-appropriate" criteria will continue to appear on every score sheet. Necessary deductions will be taken. Disqualification may result, at the discretion of the judges.

All entries will be adjudicated by four qualified judges. The lowest score will be dropped. In certain circumstances, an entry may be choreographed by one of the judges. When this issue arises, he/she will only critique the entry and his/her "score" will be dropped. All ties will be broken by adding the fourth judge's score. If a tie remains after the addition of the fourth judge's score, the competition will be judged a tie.

ON THE EDGE!, High Gold, Gold, High Silver, Silver and Bronze awards will be presented based on the following combined scores:

ON THE EDGE!!! 291-300
HIGH GOLD 276-290
GOLD 261-275

The top FOUR overall high scores in the Group, Line, Extended Line and Production Divisions from each of the Mini, Junior, Teen and Senior age divisions are eligible for RADIX's 2017 National BEST OF RADIX award!

All 16 Best of Radix finalists will be invited to re-compete at the Gala on June 29th.
A Studio may be represented by only ONE number in each of the Mini, Junior, Teen and Senior divisions. If a particular studio were to have the top two or three scores in a division, we would then go down the list to find the next highest score with a different studio name.

The overall highest scoring Rookie routine (out of all of the Group, Line, Extended Line and Production divisions) will be announced at the Rookie group routine awards. That routine will be the Rookie Best of Radix Winner and will re-perform at the Gala on June 29th!

BEST OF RADIX AWARDS (In each Age Division)

WINNER $1,000
1st Runner Up $500
2nd Runner Up $250
3rd Runner Up $100

PLEASE NOTE: Routines competing in the "Open" age division are not eligible for the Best of Radix award.

Why just listen to your critiques when you can listen AND watch? We offer video critiques from every judge!

Judges' score sheets and videos are confidential and are given out to Studio Owners and Teachers ONLY. Please check with the RADIX staff on June 29th to see if your competition packet is ready. If it is not ready by then, we will ship it to you within one week of the event.

At RADIX, we realize there are things our judges might want to say JUST to the teacher. Maybe it's about a particular dancer, a costume, or choreography suggestions. Therefore, one judge on our panel will be doing a TEACHERS ONLY critique, which will be included as a separate viewing option on the studio's video critique. This way Teachers will receive feedback for their ears only!

RADIX is happy to provide a free webcast of the Core Performer Solo Competition, Pre-Qualifying Competition, Finals Competition and Core Performer Challenge.

You will find a link to the webcast on our website The webcast link will go LIVE about five minutes before the event start time. Please understand that sometimes we are limited by the internet capabilities of the venue. Occasionally we are unable to get a good enough connection from the venue to do the webcast, or the connection is intermittent. Please be assured we do everything possible to produce a seamless webcast. We apologize in advance if you experience any problems.

Videotaping and flash photography are strictly prohibited during the entire event. Parents will be able to purchase videos and photos of the competition and the Gala at the RADIX Media Desk. All participating dancers authorize the use of their image in photos and video for RADIX publicity and advertisement purposes.

NO dangerous props may be used during the competition (swords, fire, etc.). General props are allowed, but must be taken on and off the stage within two minutes total. It is the sole responsibility of each studio to ensure that its props are taken on and off stage. Radix staff cannot help with props. It is also the studio's responsibility to ensure that the stage is completely clean and clear after the routine is finished. Please do not build props backstage as this can be hazardous to the performers. For safety, dancers cannot stand above 6'6" on a prop. Props that stand above 10' are not guaranteed to fit on the Radix stage. Radix is not responsible for and will not supply power. Excessive scenery, special lighting and use of live animals is prohibited. PLEASE NOTE: Any violation of the above rules may result in the routine being ineligible for any High Score awards and may be announced for Adjudication ONLY.

Admission to the RADIX competition is absolutely free. Audience will be permitted to enter and exit the ballroom between numbers only. Doors will be closed during performances. Teachers of competing dancers will be given reserved seating. Visual coaching is prohibited.

Tickets for the Gala on June 29th will be available one month prior to the event. Please remember, everyone will need a ticket to the Gala. This includes dancers performing in the show, if they want to come into the audience and watch the show before (or after) they perform. For any questions on this, please email
